How to Prevent Beard Split Ends

bearded man looking down

Beard split ends are truly a nuisance to an otherwise glorious beard. But with a little tender, love, and care you can get rid of them completely and curb them forever. Preventing and mending split ends requires a bit of patience, but as a beard grower, you no doubt have more than enough. Fortunately, there are things that you can do treat and even prevent beard split ends from occurring in the first place. This article may give you some pointers or tips to prevent the dreaded beard split ends the saga.

But before that, the best way to prevent beard split ends is to understand what causes them in the first place. It’s wise to keep the above things in mind in regards to the types of practices that can result in a fraying, itchy, and unmanageable beard. Split ends happen mostly because of damage to your hair. It will become weak and can’t hold up well and then it will start to split. Some of the reasons are due to bad diet or it could simply be because of exposure to some horrible sort of chemical. Some of these chemicals are hair dye or hair styling products and even shampoo. Another cause of beard split ends is having a long beard and by using a blow dry.

So to make changes to the way your beard looks, follow this simple routine for your beard that can prevent split ends.

Trim your beard

Trim you beard only with well-maintained tools. Do it once in two weeks and make sure it’s an even length throughout, preferably with the use of a good and sharp pair of scissors which is necessary for cutting the beard. Cut out the hair strands that are starting to show signs of splitting the minute you notice them. This helps tame the spread of split ends. We recommend using scissors rather than trimmers since trimmers chew the strand rather than cleanly slice it.

Shampoo

Shampoo every couple days with a chemical-free, natural beard shampoo. You can also adjust shampooing if necessary. Many shampoos contain harsh chemicals that only strip your hair of its natural oils – and this is true for the hair on your head as well as in your beard. Once you’re done, make sure you dry your beard well.

As noted, dry up the beard only with a towel and not a hairdryer. The blasting high heat will damage the roots of each hair strands and this may lead to beard split ends.

Condition your beard to get rid of Beard Split Ends

Condition you beard using a beard oil or beard balm in the morning and beard oil once again just before you go to sleep. Only apply these products on a clean and towel dry beard.

Brush your beard

Brush your beard with a natural hair brush. Boar bristle brushes carry the natural oils of your skin and facial hair and spread it across. It will make your beard softer and healthier. Use the beard brush before and after you apply beard oil or balm. Before, to straighten, detangle and clean your beard and after to spread the product evenly across the face.

Improve your diet to Prevent Beard Split Ends

Eat healthier foods preferably more on protein. Try lean, white meat poultry, seafood, yogurt, eggs, and milk. If you’re vegetarian, quinoa, edamame, and lentils are all rich in protein. A lack of protein is the reason why your beard hair is giving up and losing integrity.

Therefore for every man, his beard is his pride and joy. Those are the routine you should always remember. The key is incorporating good beard care practices into your daily routine so your beard will stay healthy, nourished, split end free—and most importantly, look incredible.
