How to Soften Your Beard – 5 Steps To Make Your Beard Softer

man with flower beards

So, you rock the bearded look and your IG likes have never been better since growing out the stubble to a full beard. In truth, not all men can rock the beard at all because on some it looks scruffy and unkempt. This is the flipside of a bearded man’s life, it can be itchy, rough and gnarly looking. Let’s face it, beards get dry and prone to beard split ends too and as handsome as you are, making out to sandpaper cools the hotness meter. That’s why men are looking for some ways on how to make their beard softer.

Before doing anything drastic, there is a way on how to make beard softer. Let’s set the premise here…the beard is basically hair, facial hair.  The hair on your face is thicker and darker in color, while the hair on your head is slightly finer and lighter in color.  Being able to grow a beard also determines how your body reacts to testosterone levels – the more sensitive your genes are to testosterone the fuller the beard.

But I digress. So, back to the problem of how to make beard hair softer.

There is no need to relinquish being a bearded fellow. But for the same reason why we can’t recommend using bath soap on your hair, harsh chemicals to clean the skin will not tame the beard. Washing with anything sudsy isn’t how to make beard softer.

All you need is to spend time keeping it groomed in 5 easy steps plus beard softening tips.

Cleanse it.

Wet your beard and massage beard shampoo into a lather. Massage your face in circles while shampooing. The action stimulates the beard follicle to make your beard grow faster and improves the quality of your skin. Thoroughly wash off the beard shampoo, leaving no residue that can cause beardruff.

TIP:  Wash your beard as often as everyday or every other day- depending on how often you get crumbs on it.

Condition it. – To help Beard Softer

After shampooing your beard, take a few drops of beard conditioner and spread it on your beard and mustache. Leave for a minute or two (or how instructed). Then rinse, making sure there is none left.

TIP: Rinse conditioner off by running your fingers through your beard to know there are no greasy residues in between hair.

Oil It. – To Make Beard Softer

Now that your beard is now clean smelling, soft to touch and tamed, you’ll need to keep it that way until the next washing. You can use beard balm, beard butter or beard oil.

Put 2 drops of beard oil on your palms. Lather some oil or beard balm and massage your beard working from the base of the hair root towards the tip of the hair follicle. Make sure that all the bearded areas are covered. Always massage the root to moisturize your skin as well.

TIP: The heat of rubbing the oil on your palms before oiling your beard make absorption better.

Comb It. Brush It.

With a fine toothed comb or fine bristled brush, groom and prep your beard for the final step of styling your beard. Run the comb / brush your beard several times, getting rid of the flyaways.

TIP: For important occasions, you can use a round brush to blow dry long beards. The shampooing and conditioning make the beard pliant enough for a round brush.

Style it.

You don’t have to style it if you don’t usually do, okay. But if the styling is part of your beard care then put a dollop of beard balm on your palms and rub some heat into it. Apply beard balm throughout the hairy part of your face then pat or comb back into place. You really got to comb or brush after styling so the beard balm will not clump parts of your beard.

TIP: Handle bars are created by twizzling the ends of your mustache- so just put enough product on the place you’d need to shape.
As your beard grows longer you would need to trim it, there’s just so much you can do with styling if you let it grow wildly.
Follow these 5 steps to taming your beard and keep your hotness level up there. Women and men will love the groomed look that is soft to touch and every strand in place.

It would also help if you have your beard grooming kit with you. So here’s a list of beard softener products you’ll need in your dopp kit:
